What is mini-splits, really?

A mini-split is a small wall-mounted unit that cools (or heats) a single room or zone without needing ducts. One outdoor compressor connects to one or more indoor heads. They're whisper-quiet, very efficient, and ideal for rooms that always run hot or cold.

When you need it

  • ·You added a room, garage conversion, or ADU and the existing system can't reach it
  • ·One bedroom is always 10° hotter than the rest of the house
  • ·Your home was built without ducts (common in older homes)
  • ·You want zoned control — different temperatures in different rooms
  • ·You want a heat pump alternative that handles both heating and cooling

Mini-splits have come a long way. Modern units are 30–50% more efficient than central AC and run so quietly you'll forget they're on. We've installed hundreds of them across San Diego and Southern Riverside counties — from single-zone units in Carlsbad ADUs to whole-home multi-zone systems in older Escondido ranch houses.

The install is cleaner than central AC: a small (3-inch) hole in the wall connects the indoor head to the outdoor unit. No ducts, no major drywall work. Most single-zone installs are done in a day.

Mini-Splits questions, answered.

How long does a mini-split installation take?
Most single-zone installs are a one-day job. Multi-zone systems (2–4 heads) usually take 1–2 days.
Will a mini-split heat my home in winter?
Yes. Modern mini-splits are heat pumps — they cool in summer and heat in winter. In our region's mild climate, they handle our coldest nights without breaking a sweat.
How loud is a mini-split?
Indoor heads run around 19–25 decibels — quieter than a whisper. The outdoor compressor is louder but still significantly quieter than a central AC condenser.
Are mini-splits eligible for rebates?
Often, yes. SDG&E and federal tax credits both offer incentives for high-efficiency heat pump mini-splits.
